The Daughters of the Republic of Texas announced the winners of their annual art contest. The awards were presented at the DRT Museum in Austin by Jean Sitterle, chairman of the committee and pioneer John Haby’s great grandson. Winners representing Llano Christian Academy in the poster contest for grades kindergarten through fifth grade were first place, McKenzie Jones; second place, Destiny Reed and honorable mention for Cade Whitson, Makalyn Price and Christian Dees. Their posters included illustrations of Texas Ranger Jack Hayes’ badge and “The Battle of Enchanted Rock”, a confrontation between the Comanche Indians and Jack Hayes. A Power Point was required for the upper grades six through twelve. Awarded first place was John Pratt; second place, Nick Morrison; third place, Braden Tuman and honorable mention, Bryan DeVault. These students took field trips to document their subjects of John O. Meusebach , the Adelsverein and early settlements near Castell. The students were presented with certificates and monetary awards. Also attending the program were the parents and families of the winners. There were many other entries from Llano Christian Academy and other schools in Area VIII. The Daughters of the Republic of Texas was founded in 1891 to preserve Texas history. The Llano Pioneers Chapter of DRT is proud of all participants and congratulates the winners. The students at North Campus have been studying birds. Mr. Jeffery Price brought his hunting bird for the students to see up close and personal.
